Nebulisers convert a liquid medication or saline solution into an aerosol that the horse inhales whilst wearing the device over the muzzle. These are great for medications that need to be administered precisely such as antibiotics for infections or other medications for specific respiratory diseases that generally occur in the lower airways. If using the device for multiple horses, it is paramount it is thoroughly cleaned between each use to avoid cross contamination or passing on any bacteria.
Salt therapy converts dry medical grade salt (sodium chloride) into a dry aerosol that the horse inhales whilst in a controlled environment such as a stable. The salt particles get dispersed into the air using a halogenerator (I use the Newmarket Salt Therapy System) and it is also absorbed by the skin. The Newmarket Salt Therapy System is designed to target the upper and lower airways, providing a non-invasive, natural & drug free therapy. This can be particularly beneficial for horses competing as it provides a safe way to support respiratory health.
